Need Health Insurance and You are 64 Years Old or Younger?
Under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) Maine was one of the states that chose not to create its own Health Insurance Marketplace, therefore Maine citizens will use the Federal Marketplace for health insurance. There are between 130,000 -150,000 uninsured or under insured in Maine and as of December 28th 2013 only 13,700 had enrolled in the Marketplace in Maine. Many people believed that if they did not sign up by December 31st that they no longer qualify, but there is still time. The minimum penalty for non-enrollment in 2014 is $95 and will increase based on income.
If you 64 years old or younger, a pre-retiree, non Medicare recipient, have a younger spouse, partner, children or grandchildren in need of health care coverage there is still time to apply. All eligible citizens may enroll through March 31, 2014.
